Lughnasadh 2024
During this time of Lughnasadh I call upon the East for communications and growth. I call upon the South for passion and love. I call upon the West for messages and understanding. I call upon the North for grounding and security. I call upon Lugh for his wisdom and bravery and I call upon his stepmother Tailtiu for her strength and love.
I call upon each of you for knowledge gained in research of this beloved time.
Barbara, Kelli, and Tara.
Lughnasadh is seen as a time to give thanks to the spirits and deities for the beginning of the three harvest seasons.
Lughnasadh is the old Irish name for the festival - and is actually the Irish word for August It is a combination of Lug (the god Lugh) and násad (an assembly). Some call it “The games of Lugh”.
In Celtic mythology the god Lugh, who was one of the chief gods of the Tuatha De Danann, established the Lughnasadh festival as a funeral feast and games commemorating his foster-mother Tailtiu. She died on August 1st of exhaustion after clearing the plains of Brega for farming.
What would you like to share as a thank you during this time?
I want to thank Lugh and Tailtiu for coming to our circle. Hail and Farewell.

This circle is open but never broken.
Lammas is the Christianized name; what the Church called the holiday when it tried to get people to forget their pagan ways.
