Familiars

Familiars are everywhere from movies to books to games and of course as a witch’s magical companion. At different points in your life an animal may come to you as if by magic. Usually when they appear they bring with them a magical ability or a leveling up of an ability you may already have. These familiars are supernatural beings or spirits which help us with our magics. Most think only cats are familiars, but they can also be dogs, frogs, insects, snakes and so on.

During the medieval times and early modern Europe, people thought familiars to be demons sent by the devil to help witches.

During European witchcraft trials, suspected witches were searched for "teats" used to feed their familiars.

Today, witches may combine their familiars into their practices, but without the belief in any devil.

Familiars have unique personalities and are telepathically connected to their witch. It is believed, they take the form of an animal to serve as a witch’s companion and are a type of guide. They are also loyal and protective and who help in assisting with magics.

The concept of familiars is recognized across various cultures. They are said to provide abilities, guidance, protection, and/or healing.

Sometimes we get an early alert to a familiar coming to us. We may get the feeling that we need to look for something. We may keep seeing cats everywhere we go, and they seem to be looking at us. We may keep wondering about an animal and then one shows up and we feel an almost instant bond with it. Sometimes the bond takes a little bit of time.

I had a friend who had a cat show up and he didn’t like cats. My friend was always trying to send the cat away. But the cat was insistent and would not go away. Then one day he realized that ever since the cat appeared his luck seemed to have gotten better, because before he was having a tough time. The next thing I know is he started talking to the cat and then feeding it. the cat was in the house, had his own little set up and would sit on his lap when he was watching tv.

A woman living in New Orleans was diagnosed with leukemia by her doctor. She was so upset that she would lay down on her couch and cry. Her cat started coming up to console her and started laying on her chest while getting petted. A couple of weeks later she went back to the doctor for some more testing and said there must have been a problem with testing, and she did not have leukemia. A week later her cat died of it.

We never know why animals show up like they do at that moment. But if we pay attention, we will find out why. Sometimes they are with up for their entire lifetime and other times they are only with us for a brief time, whether they cross over or go on to the next person. They have their reasons.
